Year One: Community Engagement
In Year One of my time at WSU as a part of the Irvin D. Reid Honors College, I spent my time in Honors 1000 and Political Science 1010 (PS 1010) trying to grasp the relationships between agency and structure, and trying to answer historical questions such as, "Who are we? Where are we going? What are we going to do?" One highlight of year one was volunteering during PS 1010- us students were tasked with getting involved with a community service organization in Detroit, and improving our own understanding of the various structures that glue society together. I had to tackle the field of education- I volunteered at Saint Vincent and Sarah Fisher Center (SVSF) in order to better understand how nonprofits ameliorate the Educational Gap.
